it creates an operating system environment for windows and linux so, you can install any operating system in your existing windows version including linux based operating system you don't need to format total hard disk to install any operating system its really great of vmware now with vmware u can run many operating systems in one unique operating system
my story about vmware
recently my dad brought a vaio laptop with windows 7 installed. windows7 is really cool looks great but i wanted to use windows xp because windows xp works great i tried to install xp in my vaio but vaio hard disk is not detected by the windows xp install cd i searched total google but i did not found any better way to install xp at last i found VMWARE
how to install any operating system in vmware
1) vmware workstaton 7 is not free but you can download a free 30days version in vmware website
2) install vmware workstation in your windows operating system after installing open it
3) click on new virtual machine then select the typical tab click next
4) insert windows xp genuine disk in your dvd drive
5) select your operating system click next type your windows xp product key
6) click next select your hard disk size don't select your whole hard disk size select minimum amount click
next
7) click on customize hardware if you want to change your virtual operating system ram ,hard disk
memory,processer cores ...etc click finish
8) now your windows xp cd booting starts press any key ok
9) press crtl+g to use virtual machine and ctrl+alt to come out of virtual machine
10) while installing windows it will say formatting hard disk but don't worry it does not erase you are hard disk
11) after installing xp it look like the above picture click on POWER ON VIRTUAL MACHINE
12) windows xp boots
13) you are running windows xp professional in windows 7 you can try this with any operating system
14) you can shut down your virtual machine by click on stop button
